Statement from DDCA

The events of the last two weeks have been appalling. The Russian government has led an unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, causing untold human suffering to the people of Ukraine.

Dover and Deal Conservative Association, alongside many others, condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine and supports the sanctions led by the United Kingdom, alongside her allies in the Commonwealth, Europe, and NATO.

The intense conflict is causing a humanitarian disaster. Homes have been destroyed or made unsafe to live in, water supplies and schools have been damaged or destroyed, and over one million people have had to flee Ukraine already.

The Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Ukraine Appeal is the best way to get aid to those in need. DEC member charities are experts in humanitarian relief and can get aid to the right places at the right time. Five DEC charities are already providing aid in Ukraine, Poland, Hungary, Moldova, Slovakia and Romania to help civilians fleeing to escape the conflict. The Association will shortly be fundraising to donate to the appeal. www.dec.org.uk

The Community Sponsor Scheme, where members of our local Dover and Deal community have already stepped up, will provide another level of support to those in need. You can find out more about what you can do and leave your details if you can help on our MP’s webpage www.natalieelphicke.com/stand-with-ukraine/
